One of the main disadvantages of using a vertical grinder is the amount of time it takes to feed the work into the grinding machine. Grinding can take anywhere from two to five minutes depending on the current size of the workpiece. This can mean that a large number of workpieces need to be fed into the grinder in order to obtain the best roundness error. In some cases where heavy material needs to be granted the amount of feed used can be substantial. It is important that you consider this when planning your next vertical grinding operation.
A common solution to the time factor associated with vertical grinder operations is to use a 56v series vertical grinders. These units use a different approach than the type seen in the vertical, but both of them are effective at producing excellent results. In order to achieve a good level of accuracy, it is important to apply a uniform pressure while each pass is completed. These units will also allow for greater flexibility, as both of them can reach higher speeds than other types of vertical grinding applications. They also have the ability to reach a high degree of torque in applications where heavier material is necessary.
Although they utilize a different method in accomplishing the tasks of the vertical grinder, both still achieve fantastic results in terms of accuracy and durability. The two major differences are found in the way the drives and wheels operate. In the vertical grinder, there is only one wheel that is active, and this is typically attached to the motor directly. With the use of a drive system that provides for rotation of the wheel and the appropriate voltage, the speed and torque can be increased without decreasing the performance of the unit.
When operating the vertical grinder, the two major components all move in unison; this makes it extremely efficient and enables the operator to get great results with very little manual effort. As with the roundness unit, the drive system is responsible for producing a consistent grind in an environment that has less distortion. This means that the same grinding angle will not be used for each and every cut, which require less manual effort than is required with other units. Also, with a less distortion output and a consistent grind, the vertical grinder is able to produce much more consistent results than its counterpart.
